Government Stimulus is Planned to Fuel a Shift in Medical Records

Nationwide, $19.2 billion of stimulus money will be doled out over the next five years under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act. The Affordable Care Act took the push even further, by embedding Medicare reimbursement penalties for doctors’ offices that don’t convert to electronic medical records by 2015. The penalty starts at 1 percent of Medicare reimbursements and rises to 3 percent after 2017.
